TRITEC
Developments confirms its position as one of the leading developers
of fibre installation equipment by designing a specialist bespoke
fusion splicing solution for the subsea marketplace one of
the most demanding optical fibre joining environments.
TRITECs award-winning FASE II fusion
splicer has been adapted to deal with the special needs of the marine
environment and includes a modified fibre clamp to cope with the
loose-tubed fibre used in specialist underwater communications cabling
applications. The adapted clamps facilitate gripping of the fibre
rather than the outer tubing, keeping it firmly in place while the
splicing process takes place. This enables a high quality, precision
splice that otherwise could not be achieved.
Furthermore, the battery powered functionality
and unique compact design of the FASE II fusion splicer makes it
ideally suited for the subsea environment, where portability is
crucial.
Optical Technology Training, a leading provider
of communications cabling training, has worked closely with TRITEC
Developments for over 10 years. For its range of practical subsea
training courses OTT has chosen the adapted FASE II fusion splicer
as its preferred splicer. It will be used extensively within the
Subsea Umbilical Re-termination Training programme, which has been
specially designed by OTT. It is aimed at both staff and customers
of some of the worlds leading engineering companies in the
sector including Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD), The Engineering Business,
and Charles Tomkins Consultants (CTC). TRITECs fusion splicing
technology will be available to all delegates on the OTT range of
subsea courses.
Roy Brader, one of OTTs senior trainers
commented: "TRITECs fusion splicer is ideally suited
for our range of marine courses, due to its unique technology, portability
and ease of use. For example, cables are often terminated inside
the winch drum on board the ship, so it is essential that any equipment
used under these conditions is compact, durable and easy to use.
I have found the product to be excellent for the specialist requirements
of the subsea sector."
David Myers, Director of TRITEC Developments,
commented: "TRITEC is committed to on-going research and product
development. Therefore, if a client requires a solution to a particular
splicing problem, we will only be too happy to look at possible
solutions. Our team of engineers are some of the best in the industry
and that is what sets us apart from the competition, and we can
react quickly to the needs of a particular client or market. The
use of fibre optics has become increasingly important in both cable
laying and communications with cable laying equipment. Undoubtedly,
we will be working further in this exciting and developing sector.
